How The Urus Saved Lamborghini

When you think of Lamborghini, the first thing that comes to mind are fast, 2-door supercars with no ground clearance.

This is what Lamborghini is famous for, what a Lambo is meant to be So the whole automobile world was shocked when Lambo announced in 2012 that it'd be launching an SUV - the Urus.
A controversial move at the time, the Urus has turned out to be the best decision Lamborghini has ever made.

Here's how

In the 3 years leading up to the Urus launch, following were Lambo's annual revenue and unit sales.

How The Urus Saved Lamborghini?

Then came the Urus.
It was fast, rugged, looked gorgeous and more importantly, was the "cheapest" Lambo money could buy

It was an instant hit.
It boosted Lambo's revenue and sales figures by 52% and 50% respectively, after the 1st year itself

In 2021, Lambo made a record $2.05B in revenue, $10M in profit and 8,405 unit sales.
5,021 out of the 8,405 were Uruses

And a major reason for this growth was a surge in Asian sales, especially China, as the Urus was more 'affordable' and a 4WD.
Lambo sold a record 69 cars in India last year. For context, it has sold a total of 400 cars in India since 2007

Now many luxury manufacturers have followed Lambo's suit and launched their own SUVs.
